Effect of Electron Traps on Scintillation of Praseodymium Activated Lu Al O

چکیده
In this paper we present the studies performed on a set of Lu Al O :Pr (LuAG:Pr) crystals with praseodymium concentration between 1.5 and 10%, grown by the micro-pulling-down ( PD) technique. The research comprises the measurements of X-ray excited emission spectra and Cs gamma-ray pulse height spectra in a range from 78 to 600 K, and thermoluminescence glow curves. Based on experimental data we discuss the dependence of scintillation properties of Lu Al O :Pr on praseodymium content and temperature. The main attention is focused on a distinct increase of scintillation yield with temperature, which we attribute to existence of shallow electron traps and their temperature-dependent contribution to scintillation of LuAG:Pr. An active role of traps is demonstrated by a novel experiment combining X-ray and laser excitation.

TiO2 nanorods can be used as dye-sensitized solar cells and as various sensors and photocatalysts. These nanorods are synthesized by a using thermal corrosion process in a NaOH solution at 200 oC with TiO2 powder as a source material. In the present work, the synthesis of TiO2 nanorods in anatase, rutile and Ti8O15 phases and the...

Two different charge carrier trapping processes have been investigated in RE2O2S:Ln3+ (RE = La, Gd, Y, and Lu; Ln = Ce, Pr, and Tb) and RE2O2S:M (M = Ti4+ and Eu3+). Cerium, praseodymium and terbium act as recombination centers and hole trapping centers while host intrinsic defects provide the electron trap. The captured electrons released from the intrinsic defects recombine at Ce4+, Pr4+, or ...

A sample of Eu-activated lutetium sesquioxide transparent ceramic has been investigated by combined scintillation and thermoluminescence excited by prolonged gamma-ray irradiation. The thermoluminescence glow curve partially confirms and extends a previous model for afterglow following pulsed X-ray excitation. The initial concentration of hole traps, tentatively attributed to anion Frenkel defe...

Comparison of thermoluminescence (TL) and scintillation light outputs with continuous gamma-ray excitation reveals that the concentration of deep hole traps in ceramic Lu2O3:Eu, tentatively attributed to anion Frenkel defects, is enhanced by reversible radiation damage. Shallow electron and hole traps are tentatively attributed to surface states at grain boundaries. Electrons in shallow traps s...
